Like a Reptile

Anyway, this is one of the races that inhabits a fantasy world I came up with. In this world, magic may or may not exist (probably doesn't) but the distinguishing feature is that there is a humanoid, sentient race for every major category of living thing. So far I've got one for plants, reptiles, and mammals (humans, lol). It's sort of an interesting concept, and I'm focusing more on the world than any characters therein; I've just got a bunch of minor stories running throughout, focusing on the daily lives of a few of them.


The lizard people have two main ethnic groups, tropical jungle dwellers (pictured) and those that inhabit colder, northern regions. Maybe I'll talk about the northern ones later.

These guys have hair, but no mammary glands. HOW WACKY IS THAT? So therefore I draw the females topless (nothing to show!). They may not have breasts but they can still get some pretty ripped pecs
They are also cold blooded, but can use their smarts to avoid many of the problems other cold-blooded creatures face. The females will lay eggs if there are enough male hormones around, regardless of whether or not they're fertilized. They probably have some way to tell if the eggs are "alive", and may or may not eat the unfertilized ones (gross ): )

These jungle dudes are by no means homogeneous in their traditions and cultures, but they have some defining characteristics. They mainly live in small, tribal villages in remote, equatorial rain forests of the world. They have a fairly unanimously matriarchal society, and the women are (generally) larger and more powerful than the men. Not sure if I'm going for these heights as final :/ They come in four main color morphs:

Yellow (Sala, Kylek, and Queen-Mother): Probably the most common color variation. Typically yellowish/orange base color with red/orange markings.
Red (Dalan and average joe): Second most common. Typically red base, with dark brown markings.
Gold (Krugan): Fairly unusual, often coupled with strange markings. Varying shades of brown/yellow.
Blue (average jane): (Avatar, anyone?) Somewhat of an oddity, this color is only produced by a very recessive gene. Colors can range across the cool spectrum from blue to green to purple.

The nature of the markings varies. Most have some form of stripes, reminiscent of that of a tiger. A lighter stomach and throat area is sometimes observed, but is not always present. Unusual markings, such as Dalen's or Krugan's, may sometimes be observed. These traits are likely to persist, as males with unique features are often chosen as mates.

There can also be tipped tails or "socks" on the feet or hands. Claws can be either light or dark.

Wow, so much info @_@ Not even gotten to this particular tribe yet...

Anyway, in this tribe, the females are given minimal training and sent out at a young age to prove themselves by hunting. If they catch something, they pass, if they die, they fail. This hopefully keeps the population down and weeds out the unfit. Males are only good for breeding and taking care of the village, so I dunno what happens to them. Maybe worthless males are sent away to die or just not allowed to mate or something.
The most skilled warrior becomes the Queen-Mother, who leads the tribe. The QM gets various perks, such as a harem of whatever guys she wants, as well as nearly dictatorial control of the village. Most only last a short time before they die or are replaced, but this one has managed to hold onto her position through being ruthless and cunning.

So Kylek is kind of a fail hunter, and her sister Sala has to look out for her. In her first hunt, she couldn't catch anything so Sala had to get something for both of them. Since then she's gotten a little better, but she's still not very good. She likes Dalen, but unfortunately he's been chosen for the QM's harem (WOAH creepy perv queen with her underage kid harem! They used to do that back in the day, except it was the guys that were old and the girls that were young D: ). The QM also restricts reproductive rights, but she's had to loosen that up a bit, since she's so old that she's all but stopped producing eggs
So Kylek and Dalen go behind the QM's back, and wind up with EGG BABEHS! O noes! If anyone finds out they will be killed! But Kylek loves her little babies and doesn't want to kill them. She confides in her sister Sala, who tells her to run away with Dalen, so Sala can do her duty to the tribe and inform the QM. SO Kylek and Dalen run away with their eggs, and probably go to the outside world where they learn that the men run stuff instead of the women! Wacky!

Maybe later on Sala overthrows the QM and becomes more lenient with her policies, and Kylek and family can come back. Idk

ALSO the colors of Kylek and sis are probably based off of this Velociraptor toy I had as a kid. I really loved dinos back then : D
